Hospitality

Mohana

A terracotta-and-lime property built around a pool, where jaali screens do the work that walls would have done.

The plan turns around the pool. Arched colonnades run along the garden side and pierced terracotta screens stand where walls would ordinarily be, so the rooms borrow light and air from one another instead of sealing themselves off.

Inside, the palette stays with the building: lime-washed plaster, teak, cane and rattan, with colour held back for the screens and a single painted mural. The bedrooms are quieter still: plaster relief behind the beds, curtained canopy frames, herringbone tile in the baths.
